Kahoano allegedly threatened his estranged wife's boyfriend on Sunday. The officer was arrested around 1 a.m. at the Pearl City substation, where he is assigned.

Woman dies following crash

KA'U, Hawai'i — A 40-year-old woman died last night at Kona Community Hospital about seven hours after crashing her car into a utility pole at the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

Big Island police identified the woman as Elizabeth Mathewson of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

Mathewson was speeding in a 1986 Toyota station wagon that rear-ended a 1981 Jaguar on Koa Lane at 11:45 a.m., police said. Mathewson lost control of her car and was ejected when it hit the utility pole, according to police. The driver of the Jaguar was not injured.
