THE LEFT LANE
That's my head!

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Hawai'i actor Daryl Bonilla is overwhelmed. He's done theater and a feature film, and gets recognized everywhere he goes as the "That's my bank!" guy from the Bank of Hawai'i commercials. But this latest development took him by surprise.

"They called and said, 'Well, the bank has a new idea for you guys. Are you ready for it?' And I was like, 'Sure.' And the guy goes, 'Bobbleheads!' And there was those couple seconds of quiet."

The Bobblehead dolls of Bonilla (above right) and his "That's my bank!" co-star, Brian Ashak, are available free when you open a checking account at any Bank of Hawai'i, including branches in Guam, Saipan, Palau and American Samoa, through Feb. 15.

Now that his career has reached the level of action figure, Bonilla says there's just one thing that could top this: "I gotta be a judge on 'Hawai'i Stars.' "

Romantic inquiry

Maybe people always said you and your significant other were a little quirky. In a good way, of course. But just what is that certain something that makes your romance stand out?

Whether you want to share how you met, how you beat the odds, how your spouse proposed or what's going to make your wedding unique, we'd love to hear the details.

Your letter may be used in an upcoming relationships story. Send your love story, along with your name and daytime phone number, to relationships writer Tanya Bricking Leach, The Honolulu Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802, fax 525-8055 or e-mail tbricking@honoluluadvertiser.com.

Bidding for nostalgia

Slow cookers, fondue sets and electric frying pans are expected to make a comeback in 2004, say the collectibles experts at eBay. Pinball machines and casino gear (such as dice and poker chips) also are poised for popularity.

Last year's hottest collectibles shared a common characteristic: a nod to the '60s and '70s era, as with items such as lunch boxes, comic books and Pez dispensers. With baby boomers making most of the buys on the Web site, watchers say it makes sense that nostalgia will drive this year's shopping.
