Woman charged with visa fraud

A 52-year-old Kaua'i woman has turned herself in to federal authorities in Seattle to face charges of visa fraud related to her efforts to help American families adopt Cambodian children.

Lauryn Galindo, of Hanalei, had an initial appearance in U.S. District Court yesterday. She has arranged hundreds of adoptions of Cambodian children through her sister's firm, Seattle International Adoptions, and other adoption agencies.

Investigators alleged that some of the children put up for adoption by the Seattle agency were not orphans, but had been bought from poor families.
