Sailing classes to be offered

The Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron will hold a seven-week basic boating class beginning Monday.

The course will be held on seven consecutive Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Waikiki Yacht Club.

There is a $25 fee for study materials for the course.

The course will cover boat types and terms, boat handling and elementary seamanship, sailing, trailer boating, regulations and equipment, navigation, and coastal and inland boating.

• HURT 100-mile run Jan. 17: The HURT (Hawaiian Ultra Running Team) will hold its 100-mile trail run Jan. 17 at the Nature Center.

There are 72 runners entered in the race, which will feature a looping trail course with aid stations.

The race will begin at 6 a.m. and there is a mandatory cutoff at 6 p.m. on Jan. 18.

• Sierra Club offering hike: A 3-mile hike in Hawai'i Kai is being offered by the Sierra Club on Jan. 25. The Kaluanui Ridge hike, also known as Mariner's Ridge, offers views of East O'ahu.

Hikers will meet at the Church of the Crossroads by Puck's Alley in Manoa at 1 p.m. or at 1:30 p.m. at the trailhead. Cost is $1 for Sierra Club members, $5 for nonmembers.
