A prelude to Chinese new year

Crowds of residents and visitors lined Hotel Street in Chinatown yesterday to watch the Night In Chinatown Parade and celebrate the coming of the Chinese new year.

Parade watchers handed dollar bills to dragon dancers for good luck. In the Chinese zodiac, 2004 is the Year of the Monkey. The new year begins Jan. 22.
