Former sumo wrestler Konishiki ties knot

Former sumo wrestler Konishiki (Salevaa Atisanoe) married a former medical worker in Japan, his talent agency said yesterday.

Konishiki, 40, registered his marriage to 28-year-old Chie Iijima last Wednesday, the agency said.

Konishiki, of Nanakuli, was the first foreign-born sumo wrestler to attain the sport's second-highest rank of ozeki.

Since retiring from sumo in 1997, Konishiki has taken up a career as a TV celebrity, appearing in numerous programs and commercials in Japan.


DIVING

• Maas qualifies for NCAAs: The University of Hawai'i's Miranda Maas reached an NCAA qualifying mark in the platform event at the Hawai'i Diving Invitational yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. She finished with a score of 383.55.

Maas also placed third in the one-meter event (262.65).

Jonathan Coyle scored a 537.35 in the platform event to surpass the previous school record by more than 80 points. Coyle also won the one-meter event (577.00)

Duke, Drury, Providence and Utica College also participated in the meet.
