Advertiser Staff and News Services

According to a Parenting.com poll, 37 percent of parents sometimes skip pages while reading to their children, and 17 percent skip whenever they can get away with it.

Do kids notice? Thirty-six percent of parents say their children never notice when they skip a page, but 35 percent said they figure it out every time.

Seattle slippahs get snowed under

The accompanying photos could be a cure for Island fever.

Last week's snows in the Seattle area had transplanted kama'aina sending pictures to Hawai'i.

The slippers covered with snow photo, above, was supplied by Ken and Monica Chun of Kirkland, Wash. , along with a note: "Lucky you live in Hawai'i!"

The photo of the snow-covered license plate, below, comes from former Honoka'a resident Holly

McCracken, who said she moved to Seattle a year ago and wants to show that even in the worst snow storm to hit the Pacific Northwest since 1996, the aloha spirit lives on.

How romantic are you? Tell us your tale

Does the way you fell in love always lead friends to comment, "That's such a great story!" when you tell it?

Well, then, we want to hear about it, too. Just what is that certain something that makes your romance stand out?

Whether you want to share how you met, how you beat the odds, how your spouse proposed or what's going to make your wedding special, we'd love to hear the details.

If your story melts our hearts, you could be featured in an upcoming Valentine's Day story or upcoming features on fine romances.

Send your love story, along with your name and daytime phone number, to relationships writer Tanya Bricking Leach, The Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802, fax 525-8055 or e-mail tbricking@honoluluadvertiser.com.

The deadline to be considered for our valentine story is Feb. 1.
