Cameron Diaz dips into Hawai'i swimwear

FIRST PACE: You might have read or heard that Cameron Diaz (whose main squeeze is Justin Timberlake) is the world's highest-paid actress. She was house-hunting here last year and spent quite a bit of time frolicking in paradise, notably in the surf. So it's not surprising that Diaz had her Hollywood costume designer contact Iwalani Isbell, a local swimwear designer, about getting some pieces from the Pualani Hawaii line for Diaz's new film, "In Her Shoes," aiming to highlight "fun" in "functional" wear. If Diaz likes the swimwear, it would be a boon for Pualani. ...

New England chef-restaurateur Todd English will join local fave Sam Choy as a featured chef at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu's 11th Annual Gourmet Affair fund-raiser, March 27 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. English is owner and chef at the acclaimed Olives Restaurant and was one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People, too. More importantly, English is also a James Beard Foundation award winner. ...

RANDOM NOTES: It was "Smooth" sailing for Carlos Santana, when he found his way to Vino (D.K. Kodama's Italian restaurant) in Kapalua for dinner — not once, but four times — over the holidays. ...

James Hatfield, lead singer for Metallica, had a grand time at Compadres at Lahaina Cannery on Maui. Must've heard about the restaurant from fellow group member Kirk Hammett, who has been at the Honolulu Compadres a number of times. Others making Lahaina Compadres g.m. Steve Austin happy: Jim Breuer, who is Goat Boy on "Saturday Night Live," and actor Robert Downey Jr. ...

Paris Hilton, "The Simple Life" co-star, enjoyed Willie K's music at Hapa's in Kihei, staying for much of a Monday night performance, and asking the localite why he's not doing more Mainland concerts. ...

Two Farrington grads — ex-footballer Jesse Sapolu and TV host Emme Tomimbang — are co-hosting Hula Bowl events on Maui this week, starting off with last Sunday's sold-out America concert at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. ...

Local girl Jacquelyn Dowsett, a 1998 Punahou grad, had a dancing role in the film "Stuck on You," starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear, and also spent the holidays as a Radio City Hall Rockette in productions in Milwaukee, Wis., and Branson, Mo. She's now exploring opportunities in New York. ...

Blaise Noto, Maui-based movie publicist, is off to Los Angeles for a couple of months to work with Mel Gibson on publicity for the controversial but nonetheless anticipated "The Passion." "I'll be handling regional publicity and promotion in the U.S. and Canada," he said. ...
