Services set for cowboy, canoe maker Bertelmann

Memorial and funeral services will be held Thursday and Friday for canoe maker and cowboy Clayton Norman Bertelmann.

Bertelmann died Jan. 6 in Waimea.

The cultural programs director for Ka'upulehu Makai Venture and former Parker Ranch cowboy, among other pursuits, was 57.

A memorial will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Makali'i Warehouse in Kawaihae. Friends may call Thursday at the family home in Waimea from 5 to 8 p.m.

A visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. immediately followed by funeral services Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waimea.

Burial will follow at Waimea County Cemetery, Mormon section.

Bertelmann is survived by his wife, Deedee, of Waimea; daughters Pomal, Laua'e Sanchez and Kekoho Ferreira; sons Keali'i and Kaleo; brothers Glenn and Milton "Shorty"; sister Lynda; six grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
