Five UH players to be suspended for brawl

By Stephen Tsai

University of Hawai'i athletic director Herman Frazier today announced that six Warrior football players violated the Western Athletic Conference’s sportsmanship code during a fight with University of Houston players at the conclusion of the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl on Christmas Day.

Frazier said defensive end Nkeruwem "Tony" Akpan, linebacker Alika Durington, offensive lineman Larry Sauafea, linebacker Liana Wong and defensive back Orlando Wong each will be suspended for one of the first four games during the 2004 season.

A sixth player, offensive lineman Shayne Kajioka, faces disciplinary action. Kajioka graduated in December.

Frazier also announced that seven other players will be reprimanded. According to a news release, the identities of those seven will not be made public, even though the WAC sportsmanship calls for public reprimands.
