"Survivor," the "reality" series on CBS, will hold Hawai'i auditions for the 2004 season on Sunday. Hundreds are expected to sign up.

Randy Brandt, a producer-director at KGMB-9, the CBS affiliate here, has been hired to tape prospective contestants for the next installment of "Survivor," which will feature 16 Americans eager to try to win $1 million as they face hardship and work on their survival instincts in situations yet to be determined.

"We're expecting several hundred people — a lot more than the 300 or so we had for 'Amazing Race' (last year)," said Brandt. "The last one required couples. This one doesn't."

Searches have been held in 16 cities, but not Honolulu. "Two of the last survivors were picked from cattle-call auditions like this," said Brandt.

The auditions will be at Ward Warehouse's amphitheater stage, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

"Because we're expecting a lot of people, we're going to keep the auditions to one minute apiece," he said.

Some eligibility requirements are on www.cbs.com, where an application form can be downloaded. Subway Hawaii, an audition sponsor, also has forms.

"I tell people the most important thing to bring is your personality," said Brandt.

He said serious contenders should prepare a VHS audition tape. The show has a three-minute limitation for audition tapes.

The "Survivor" audition story will be part of Brandt's "Hawaiian Moving Company" show Feb. 1 , following a Survivor special, which follows the Super Bowl XXXVIII.
