But he's been having a hard time concentrating on school.
"My first year was actually pretty tough, but it was a lot of fun," Brown said. "Schoolwork is very difficult, because my social life got in the way, especially with sports."
Brown, of Kane'ohe, is a freshman utility player for the Sagehens. He was named to the American Water Polo Coaches Association Division III All-America first team and the all-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team. He was also a Western Water Polo Association honorable mention selection.
He led the team with 71 goals this season. He also had 17 assists and 35 steals for Pomona-Pitzer (14-20, 7-3 SCIAC).
"My first season was actually more difficult than I expected," Brown said. "The coach worked us harder than I expected for a Division III school, but it paid off in the end."
Fellow Iolani graduate Ian Kusao, a sophomore driver from Honolulu, is also a Sagehen. He set a school record with 44 assists this season. He also scored 10 goals.
Brown, who said he expects to major in computer science, said Kusao helped him get into Pomona-Pitzer.
"He helped put in some good words for me with the coach (Jason Gall)," Brown said. "And the coach helped me out. It was a tough place to get into."
Brown, who was a second-team Interscholastic League of Honolulu selection his senior year at Iolani, said that he wasn't heavily recruited out of high school.
"I didn't have a very good senior year," he said. "Pomona isn't really a school that recruits for athletics. I knew the school for academics."
Brown is also a member of the Sagehen swimming and diving teams. He swims the 1,650- and 500-freestyle.
