EPA takes O'ahu site off listing
Advertiser Staff
The Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday that it had removed the Poamoho section of Del Monte Corp.'s O'ahu plantation from the national Superfund list of contaminated properties.
Del Monte, which recently announced that it would stop growing pineapple on the property, has agreed to investigate contamination, according to the EPA.
The agency now will focus on the clean up of soil and groundwater contamination in the southern portion of the site known as the Kunia section, where Del Monte plans to continue to grow pineapple. Both sections of the plantation were placed on the national Superfund list in late 1994.
