Hit-run death prompts murder probe

Police have opened a murder investigation into the death of 18-year-old Joshua K. Diaz, who was struck by a van Wednesday night in Makaha.

Diaz was left lying on Farrington Highway near Lawai'a Street and was run over by a car at 9:25 p.m. He died at 10:09 p.m. at the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

Police found the Plymouth Voyager van which struck Diaz parked at Kea'au Beach Park. The registered owner of the van is related to Diaz, police said. The man was still at large today.

In other traffic-related news, CrimeStoppers is seeking information on a white pearl colored late-model Toyota Avalon, Camry or Solara that struck a man crossing South King Street near Mother Rice KCAA Pre-School shortly before midnight.

The car was last seen headed toward the H-1 freeway on-ramp. The car may have right front fender and door.

The pedestrian is hospitalized with critical injuries.

Police are looking for witnesses and information on the car. Calls can be made to CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellular phone.
