170 to gather for jobs summit

Advertiser Staff

Some 170 representatives from labor unions, the construction industry, nonprofit organizations and government agencies will gather Tuesday at Fort Shafter to discuss the ramifications of upcoming billion-dollar military construction projects and an expected expansion of Hawai'i's cruise line industry.

Attendance at the inaugural Hawaii Jobs Summit is full, but organizers are considering holding a second, similar event later this year.

The goal of Tuesday's daylong summit is to identify opportunities and shortfalls in the labor market and develop a long-term plan, said Rep. Neil Abercrombie, the summit's honorary chairman.
