Celebrations

Thomas O. and Shirley J. Batey of Po'ipu, Kaua'i, formerly of O'ahu, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 28 at a party hosted by their children in their home. The Bateys have two married sons, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters. Thomas served in the military as a fighter pilot and more recently as the administrative assistant to Kaua'i's mayor before and after Hurricane 'Iniki. Shirley worked for the federal civil service and as a wife and mother. The Bateys were married on Dec. 3, 1943, in Aiken, S.C.

Marty Barnhart and Lani Cervania of Littleton, Colo., announce the engagement of their daughter, Kay Cervania, formerly of Palolo, to Brain Billman, son of Dave and Linda Billman of Marshalltown, Iowa. The marriage ceremony is scheduled for May 22 in Littleton.

Daniel Jason Phillips II of Wai'anae celebrated his first birthday at a lu'au on Dec. 13 hosted by his parents, DJ and Rochelle Phillips, and his sisters, Danielle and Jasielle, at Ma'ili Beach Park. Daniel was born on Nov. 30, 2002.
