Kalihi church fire called deliberately set

Advertiser Staff

A fire last night at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Kalihi ward at 1723 Beckley St. was deliberately set during a burglary, said police and fire investigators.

The 9:42 p.m. fire was set in a bishop’s office. Damage is estimated at $30,000 to structure and $10,000 to contents.

Richard Navas, a facility representative at the Kalihi ward, said two other offices in addition to the bishop’s office were burglarized. "They had to bust through six doors to get in, because each office has two doors," Navas said.
