THE LEFT LANE
Confess your love

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Nobody said being in love would be a bed of roses.

Maybe your relationship survived because you made it through the rough spots somehow.

Tell us how.

We're looking for some inspiring stories of romance. We're asking readers to send us their stories, and we'll use some of them in upcoming relationships stories, including one just in time for Valentine's Day.

Whether it's a tale of how you met, got engaged, overcame the odds or reunited after years apart, we want to hear about it.

Send your story to: Love Stories, c/o Tanya Bricking Leach, relationships writer, The Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802; e-mail entries to tbricking@honoluluadvertiser.com; or fax them to 525-8055. Be sure to include your name and daytime phone number. The deadline is Feb. 1.

Meritorious service

STOVER
Former Honolulu Symphony tuba player Jerome Stover was awarded a Civilian Certificate of Merit on Wednesday by the Honolulu Police Department for helping subdue a burglar in April.

Stover was driving home on a Saturday afternoon when he stopped for a woman calling for help on the street. Stepping out of his car, he saw his neighbor wrestling with an attempted burglar.

Stover quickly helped subdue the burglar and restrained him until police arrived.

Color us duly impressed, but we're thinking years of tuba toting couldn't have hurt here.

Stover was an orchestra member from 2001 to 2003. He now lives in Chicago, and is finishing a master's degree in tuba performance at DePaul University.

Congratulations, Jerome!

Lizard of awes

Geckos in Paradise, a community exhibit, has put out a call for 50 artists to decorate five-foot-long fiberglass art pieces in the shape of Hawai'i's favorite squawker.

Rochelle Lum completed the "master" gecko form. Any artist can apply to decorate one for public display. There's no entry fee, and expenses up to $500 will be reimbursed.

Artists must submit an application (available at www.geckosinparadise.com) by Feb. 2. Finished pieces will go on display in August for the show, which benefits women's health issues.
