Tube Notes

By Mike Hughes
Gannett News Service

State of the Union address, 4 p.m., ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and news channels. There will be plenty to talk about, from Iraq to the economy. President Bush gives his annual address, with Democrats' response and commentators following.

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. It's the second of three straight nights, with more highlights from auditions.

"Keen Eddie" return, 7, 11 p.m., Bravo. Bravo reruns seven episodes Fox aired last year (including tonight's pilot film), plus six that haven't been seen. In the pilot, a tough New York cop (Mark Valley) blows a big case. He heads to London to rectify things. Valley is fine as the stereotypical American, but this show's real joy comes from the great supporting cast. Sienna Miller, a stunning beauty with little acting experience, plays his landlady's daughter. Colin Salmon, from the James Bond films, is his London

police boss. Alexei Sayle, a terrific sketch comedian, plays a mysterious chap Eddie meets on both continents. This is an odd-lot collection of interesting people and moods, ranging from humor to action.

Of Note

"Bands Reunited," 9 a.m., 8 p.m., 10 p.m. VH1. Tonight brings back the members of Romeo Void, a group that seemed hot until it failed to fit the new music-video generation.

"Queer Eye For the Straight Guy," 6 and 8 p.m., Bravo. This popular show sandwiches "Keen Eddie," to give it a good start. In tonight's first hour, the guys help a Marine who wants to fit into civilian life. In the second, they offer Christmas tips.

"Gilmore Girls," 7 p.m., WB. In a new episode, Rory returns to college early and finds a surprise.

"Clear and Present Danger" (1994), 9 p.m., USA Network. Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) wades into federal corruption. It's a fairly solid story but the final scenes seem to go on forever.
