Warriors sign California defensive lineman

Clarence Tuioti-Mariner, a 6-foot, 280-pound lineman from Corona High in California, has decided to accept a football scholarship from the University of Hawai'i.

Although Tuioti-Mariner can play both sides of the line, he is projected to play on the defensive line for the Warriors.

Tuioti-Mariner is the nephew of Tony Tuioti, Kalaheo High’s head coach and a former UH defensive lineman.

Tuioti said Tuioti-Mariner visited this weekend and was impressed with the facilities, the coaching staff and his future teammates. During a tour of Aloha Stadium on Saturday, according to Tuioti, Tuioti-Mariner went into the stands and began chanting, "Go UH! ... Go UH!"

"With Lance (Samuseva) gone," Tuioti said of his successor at defensive tackle, "Clarence will fill the role of short defensive lineman. But he’s a good one."

Tuioti-Mariner was a three-year starter and three-year all-league selection. He played on the same high school team as UH running back Mike Bass and defensive backs Ray Bass and Lamar Broadway.

Tuioti-Mariner was scheduled to visit Boise State this weekend and Utah State the following week but decided to cancel those visits.
