Tokoro sets record for Cal State-L.A.

Cal State-Los Angeles junior point guard Monica Tokoro (Iolani '01 of 'Aiea) became the school's career assist leader Friday night, when her eight assists gave her 52 for the season and 370 for her career.

Tokoro, who also had 31 points and four steals in a 73-66 win over Cal State-Stanislaus, surpassed the 368 assists amassed by Anita Martinez from 1987 to 1990.

Tokoro had 22 points and 10 assists Saturday as Cal State-Los Angeles upset 19th-ranked Cal State-Bakersfield, 96-90.

Men's Basketball

Pacific (Forest Grove, Ore.) sophomore guard Branden Kawazoe (Waiakea '02 of Hilo) led all scorers with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 6 of 8 3-pointers, Saturday in a 101-39 win over Multnomah.

Men's Tennis

UCLA junior Chris Lam (home schooled from Kaimuki) defeated Jonathan Endrikat of UC Irvine, 6-3, 7-6 (10), in the Bruins' season opener last Wednesday.

Women's Tennis

Rice junior Tracie Chong (Iolani '01 of Honolulu) teamed with Karen Chao for an 8-5 victory over Saharai Uriarte and Avril Martinez of Louisiana Tech at No. 2 doubles Saturday.

Chong also beat Uriarte, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.

Women's Swimming

Pacific (Forest Grove, Ore.) freshman Eryn Tengan (Baldwin '03 of Wailuku) won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.07 Friday. She also finished second in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.18.

Pepperdine sophomore Nicole Okuna (Waiakea '02 of Hilo) won the 100 butterfly in 58.66 and 50 freestyle in 25.32 Saturday as the Waves beat Loyola Marymount, 209.5-81.5.

Men's Swimming

Dartmouth senior Thomas Sanford (Hawai'i Prep '00 of Waimea) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.41, the 200 breaststroke in 2:07.54 and the 100 individual medley in 53.20 Saturday in a 166-126 loss to Columbia.

Men's Soccer

Whitworth (Spokane, Wash.) senior midfielder Kurt Kagawa (Mililani '00) was named to the NSCAA/adidas 2003 College Men Scholar All-West Region second team. He had a 3.70 grade-point average in political science.
