Heavy rains will dampen the weekend

By Mike Gordon

Heavy thundershowers are expected across much of the state starting tomorrow and lasting through Monday, the National Weather Service said.

A weak front about 600 miles west of Kaua'i is generating thundershowers, said lead forecaster Roy Matsuda. The system is expected to affect Kauai'i, but the whole state could easily get thundershowers as early as tomorrow morning, he said.

The entire system is slow-moving and will linger until Tuesday, when skies are expected to clear, Matsuda said.

Winds will be out of the south but nowhere near as brisk as those which hammered the state last week. These will be in the 10- to 20-mph range, Matsuda said.

Kaua'i received a preview of what to expect, when nearly two inches of rain fell early this morning, he said. Parts of O'ahu also received that much rain. Residents on both islands experienced thunder and lightning, too, he said.
