FISHING TIME: Ben Wong has terminated his "Let's Go Fishing" show at KHON-2 but his fishing escapades will be shared in a new "Hawai'i Goes Fishing" show, expanded to an hour, beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday on Oceanic 16 (repeating at 9 p.m. Mondays and 5 p.m. Saturdays). The one-hour format will enable four regular segments to flourish in the months ahead: a chef of the day, tackle-box tips, shipshape and show-and-tell. Two chefs guest on the first installment — Dave York of Hale'iwa Joe's and Mark Kimura of Honolulu Community College. Audy Kimura did the theme song. Wong, who had a long run as the first face you saw at Hy's Steak House, moved to the Bistro but left after a five-month stint. The fishing show will keep him plenty busy, but don't be surprised if he's back in a tux and greeting diners somewhere in the future. ...

GRAMMY-BOUND: The Honolulu Symphony's pops maestro, Matt Catingub, and his wife Vicki will be attending the Grammy ceremony Feb. 8 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The orchestra's CD with late singer Rosemary Clooney, titled "The Last Concert," is nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, alongside another Island artist who did a Clooney tribute, Bette Midler ("Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook"). Midler, however, is considering withdrawing her album from consideration, in deference to Clooney's presence on the other album. The Island contingent will include Stephen Bloom, executive director of the Honolulu orchestra, and Carolyn Berry, a longtime orchestra patron and board member, and her daughter, Becky McMarlin. ...

And speaking of Midler: Will someone please try to get her "Kiss My Brass" concert tour here? We need such a musical "event" to spice up the cultural clime. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: After a screening Friday of "50 First Dates" at the Ward theaters, co-stars Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider (with their moms) ventured to Buca di Beppo for dinner. Sandler also was visibly popular last week at the Sony Open at the Wai'alae Country Club. ...

And while surfing with Schneider and Hans Hedemann off the Shorebird in Waikiki, Sandler noticed the Ocean House restaurant — so brought his mom and friends for dinner, much to the delight of g.m. David Nagaishi. ...

Hawai'i Theatre manager Burton White is back from the chills of New York but happy as a clam. He went to see "Henry IV" at Lincoln Center, starring Kevin Kline, and who should be sitting next to him but the incomparable Tony Award-winner and 12-time Emmy nominee Angela Lansbury. "She mentioned that she would like to come to Hawai'i, and I made sure she could call on us for help," White said of the star of such Broadway hits as "Mame," "Gypsy" and "Sweeney Todd," and the long-running former CBS hit "Murder, She Wrote." ...

On a recent New York trip, Cox Radio marketing director Scott Mackenzie enjoyed sushi with ex-Islanders Charles and Yolanda Morgan at Nobu's. Seated next to them — and, clearly doing her character justice — was actress Renee Zellwegger.

AROUND TOWN: Large brown monkey candles, symbolic of Chinese New Year (the Year of the Monkey starts today), were on the tables at the Michael W. Perry and Larry Price brunch show at John Dominis last Saturday, since comedian Andy Bumatai was there to spread the word about his Friday- and Saturday-night shows (with Paul Ogata) at the Ohana Reef Towers Hotel. Among those leaving with the candles in purse: soprano Alison England and her piano accompanist, Sandy McCune, who performed that evening at the Hawai'i Theatre. ...

And that's Show Biz. ...
