Champions Skins Game tickets now available

Tickets for the 2004 Wendy's Champions Skins Game, featuring Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson, are available. It will be on Maui's Wailea Golf Course next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31).

Tickets, at $20 a day, can be purchased at Wailea Golf Club pro shops, Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, Ka'anapali Golf Club, Nevada Bob's Golf in Kihei and Maui Golf Shop. Children 12 and under are free if accompanied by a ticketed adult.

Nine holes will be played each day, preceded by a nine-hole Pro-Am. Friday, the Pro-Am will be played on the Gold's back nine at 9 a.m. The Skins Game starts at 1:30 p.m. on the front nine. The events swap nines Saturday, with the same times.

Parking is $3 and will be at the grass parking lot off of Wailea Ike Drive. It opens at 7:30 a.m. Free shuttles to and from the tournament will be available.

The first half of the competition will be televised by ABC on Jan. 31, with the remainder on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1.

HSWGF awarded $9,000 in 2003

The Hawai'i State Women's Golf Foundation awarded $9,000 in travel stipends last year.

A third of the money went to Desiree Ting, Bobbi Kokx and Mari Chun, who represented Hawai'i at the U.S. Golf Association State Team Championship in Massachusetts.

Chun, Lisa Kajihara, Amanda Wilson, Michelle Wie, Kira Murashige, Britney Choy, Jayna Shimomura and Lindsay Hong also received grants to compete in the USGA's Women's Amateur Public Links, Women's Amateur, Junior Girls and U.S. Women's Open.

SHORT PUTTS: The U.S. Golf Association Girls' Junior qualifier is June 25 at Mauna Lani South course. ... The USGA Junior Amateur is June 29 at Maui Lani. ... The 11th annual Guinea Kop Memorial tournament will be Tuesday, March 23, at Pearl Country Club. The event is the major fund-raiser for O'ahu Junior Golf Association.
