Sweeney, 49, finished in 24 hours, 49 minutes, surpassing the record of 25:19 set by Ian Torrence of Utah in 2002.

Records also were established in the women's division of the 100-mile run and the men's division of 100-kilometer (62 miles) run.

Monica Scholz, 36, of Ontario, Canada, finished in 30:42, breaking a record she set in 2003.

William Emerson, 40, of Washington finished the 100k run in 13:24, taking 12 minutes off a record set in 2003 by Peter Bakwin of Colorado.

Salmonson, 56, finished in 35:07, becoming the first Hawai'i woman to complete 100 miles.

"Psychologically, I've been on a high since the race. It's definitely the biggest thrill of my life," said Salmonson, a retired claims adjuster.
