Montana St.-Billings routs UH-Hilo

Montana State-Billings raced to a 24-point halftime and went on to rout visiting Hawai'i-Hilo, 100-79, last night in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game.
The Yellowjackets shot 56 percent (18 of 32) in the first half, hitting 13 of 20 3-point shots, to take a 56-32 lead into intermission.
Reserve Buddy Windy Boy scored a career-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Montana State-Billings (11-4 overall, 3-2 PacWest).
Cameron Munoz added 19 points and Jerett Skrifvars and David Carse each had 18 for the Yellowjackets.
Ryan Abrahams led the Vulcans (11-5, 3-3) with 15 points. Terrance Troupe added 11 points and Alex Cabagnot 10.
MORE BASKETBALL
Chaminade triumphs: Nick Frey torched his former teammates with 15 points and 11 rebounds as Chaminade beat host Western New Mexico, 61-52, last night in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game.
Frey, a junior center, played at Western New Mexico as a freshman.
Donald Rogers added 11 points for the Silverswords (5-10 overall, 2-3 PacWest).
Matt Enriquez led the Mustangs (3-12, 0-5) with 17 points.
SOFTBALL
UH to play alumnae: The defending Western Athletic Conference champion University of Hawai'i softball team will make its season debut tomorrow in the annual Alumnae Game.
Game time is 5 p.m. at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. There is no admission charge.
The Rainbows return six starters, plus all three starting pitchers from last year's team that finished 40-20.
Alumnae who are expected to play are: Joyce Antonio, Rose Antonio, Alison Rapanot, Dee Wisneski, Kate Judd, Dana Degen, Trisha Ramos, Aiko Okamura, Kehau Aina (Cofran), Dawn Hirayama, Chris Viernes, Richlyn Tada, Natalie Gonzales, Tyree Woodruff, Stacie Hirano and Kelly Hupp.
Alumnae scheduled to attend, but not necessarily play, are: Tracy Loo, Tamara Kaluau, Laynie Sueyasu, Cheyene Thompson, Nanci Coolen, Joyce Lum, Shanel Ching, Rachelle Rodrigues, Michele Fukumoto, Audra Chang (Kaluau) and Penny Vess (Brun).
The varsity opens the regular season Feb. 4 against Brigham Young in the Hawai'i Paradise Classic.
TENNIS
Carnival, clinic on tap: Community Days for the Hilton Waikoloa Village USTA Challenger start tomorrow at the Lanihau Shopping Center on the Big Island.
The Challenger tournaments $50,000 men's and women's U.S. Tennis Association events start Monday. Qualifying is this weekend at Hilton's Kohala Tennis Garden.
Tomorrow's free Tennis Carnival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It includes games, giveaways and appearances by tournament pros.
Next Friday, there will be a School Day at the tournament, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. More than 100 kids from local elementary schools have been invited to a free clinic at Hilton Waikoloa Village.
Next Saturday's semifinals will be preceded by kids and adult clinics, going from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Racquets and balls will be provided. That day will also be USTA Membership Appreciation Day, beginning at 10 a.m.
