Rough weather hits Hawai'i

Advertiser Staff

Rough weather hit the islands this afternoon with funnel clouds and a tornado spotted in Central O'ahu. Heavy rains and strong winds were reported.

There were no reports of injuries or major damage as of 3 p.m.

A flash flood warning was issued for Central and Windward O'ahu and for the Hilo side of the Big Island.

The National Weather Service said it received one unconfirmed report of a tornado touching down in Central O'ahu yesterday and reports of almost a dozen funnel clouds forming in the same area between 1:30 and 3 p.m..

A flood watch remains in effect for Maui, Moloka'i and Kaua'i until 4 a.m. tomorrow because of heavy rains and thunderstorms approaching the state from the west, the weather service said.

Motorists should be on the alert for flooding and should not try to cross flooded roads.
