Boy Scout council honors 14

The Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America, recently honored 14 volunteer leaders with its Silver Beaver Award. The award is bestowed by the National Court of Honor for distinguished service to youth.

The recipients were:

  • William Coffey, a nurse and Air Force captain who serves as the Kamehameha District commissioner.
  • Maunahina Conrandt, Hawaiian language teacher with the Department of Education and Roundtable chair for the Kona Coast District.
  • Orvel Dykes, who has been involved in Scouting for more than 25 years in the Ko'olau District.
  • Michael Fisch, president and publisher of The Honolulu Advertiser, who is the Aloha Council vice president and the president-elect for 2005-06.
  • Robert Hann, The Trane Co.'s Pacific District manager and new Aloha Council vice president.
  • Moses Kealamakia, educator with the DOE on the Big Island and chartered organization representative with the Pukahi District.
  • Teuichi Kohashi, retired fire captain and member of the Pukahi District committee.
  • Vilison Kotobalavu, Hawai'i National Guard trainer and adviser to the Venture Crew in the Ko'olau District.
  • John McMillan, an Air Force master sergeant who is a member of the Kamehameha District recruiting team.
  • Greg Naganuma, a Kaua'i dentist and immediate past chairman of the Kaua'i District.
  • Joaquin Pete Nieves, United Installation drapery estimator and Cubmaster in the Ka'ala District.
  • Clayton Pang, Electrical Hawai'i Inc. president and Scoutmaster in the Kapi'olani District.
  • Harold Pukahi, who is retired from the Hawai'i National Guard and is a member of the Ko'olau District committee.
  • Thelma Ryusaki, owner-operator of Kumon School on the Big Island and vice chairwoman, program and activities, for the Hamakua/Kohala District.
