Wide receiver Greg Prator of Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., yesterday told The Advertiser: "I'm leaning toward coming here. It's definitely a place where I want to play."
Prator, who is 6 feet 2 and 195 pounds, claims to run 40 yards in 4.4 seconds. He has visited Toledo, but canceled recruiting trips to Temple, Utah State and Iowa State. He is scheduled to visit Washington State next week, but might commit to UH as early as this week.
"I want to take my time and not jump into anything," he said. "But right now, I wouldn't mind jumping into Hawai'i."
Defensive tackle Austin Jackson of Mount San Antonio College in California said he has placed UH ahead of Iowa State.
"I like Hawai'i a lot," said Jackson, who also is being recruited by Arizona State and UCLA. He can bench press 425 pounds. He was named to the 2003 Mission Conference American Division all-star team.
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Jackson redshirted as a freshman at Southern California in 2001. During USC's spring scrimmage in 2002, he made a sack and was projected to compete for playing time on the defensive line. But he decided to transfer from USC before the start of the 2002 season. He has played at Mount San Antonio for two seasons, and has two years remaining to play two seasons.
Kahuku High coach Siuaki Livai said center Jeremy Perry, who is visiting Arizona this weekend, is likely to visit UH next week. Perry canceled last week's UH visit because of illness. He was offered a recruiting trip to Michigan next week.
