THE LEFT LANE
Tackle self-indulgence during Super Bowl

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Want to keep the Super Bowl from giving you super spread? Stay-slim tips from Weight Watchers Hawaii:
  • Squelch your thirst with club soda, diet soda, seltzer or nonalcoholic beer, because a can of normal beer can set you back 150 calories.
  • Crunch on pretzels instead of chips. Add mustard for zest.
  • Prepare or bring to the party a tray of fruit or crudités. For dip, try substituting plain yogurt in your recipe, or using salsa.
  • Switch to veggie chili, and make skinless chicken breast strips seasoned with a low-fat blue-cheese dip or mustard.
  • Don't be a lump on the log: Move around before the game, take an evening stroll afterward or even play a game of catch.

Nightclub-like concert

Tower of Power, perennial rock and blues faves, will bring a nightclub flavor — think table seating on the main floor, instead of conventional seats — when it returns to Hawai'i for a Valentine's Day concert at 8 p.m. Feb. 14 at Blaisdell Arena.

The conventional arena-level seating will be replaced by tables and chairs, for more of a nightclub atmosphere. Drink and pupu service will be available.

Tickets: $55 for reserved table seats, $45 for reserved arena-level floor and riser seats; on sale at the Blaisdell box office and at all Ticketmaster locations, including Times Super Market outlets on O'ahu, which have replaced Foodland as Ticketmaster sites.

Reservations: (877) 750-4400 or Ticketmaster.com.

Casting call at UH

Seventeen Magazine Scouts the UH Campus?

Hey, you wanna be in the zone? The School Zone? Seventeen magazine will be at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, in the Campus Center Ballroom, for a casting call for a fashion and lifestyle feature called "School Zone."

The magazine will be looking for 25 to 50 students to appear on its pages.

The magazine spends several days on campus to get a feel for campus life, and it needs models to follow.

It has visited NYU, University of Texas, Ole Miss, Howard University and Evergreen College.

Next stop, UH!
