Aloha radio lunches

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The KINE Aloha Friday Luncheon Show has been around for 15 years. It comes back to the Ala Moana Hotel starting Feb. 6, with entertainment by the Brothers Cazimero (right), Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Na Palapalai. The music series, hosted by Brickwood Galuteria, will be broadcast live at noon on KINE radio (105.1 FM). Programs also will happen April 21 (Secretary's Day, a Wednesday), May 21, July 2, Sept. 3 and Dec. 10.

The site this year will be the hotel's Hibiscus Ballroom or the Garden Lanai Room, with six shows planned through December. Reservations: 955-4811 or www.alamoanahotel.com. Tickets are $19 for adults, including a buffet, with seatings from 10:30 a.m..

Dance-beat Dean

Howard Dean didn't invent the remix. But don't be surprised if the Democratic presidential candidates surprisingly upbeat Iowa concession speech makes it from the cornfields to da clubs.

Bedroom DJs nationwide have been mixing sampled loops of Dean's whack state roll call ("We're going to California! We're going to South Dakota!") and wild-eyed "Yeaaghh!" war cry with amped-up club beats to create some of the most popular downloads currently trading on the Web. With names like "Dean Goes Nuts Remix" and "Hey Yeahgh!" the clips can be found on most peer-to-peer file-sharing sites.

Fighting Eel fashions

Rona Awber and Lan Chung started their own design team after the closing of French fashion boutique Agnes B., where they worked. They're back as Fighting Eel, and a new collection, Coconut Girl in a Couture World.

The Honolulu fashion design team will launch its new spring line at a party at Indigo from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 6.

The clothes are cotton/Lycra separates with a sense of humor. Bright colors, hand embellishing and bias cuts speak to spring 2004 trends. Shaka hands slink around the sides of a deconstructed halter T-shirt (pictured). Starfishes sit on the side seams of a sexy blue tank.
