Scholarships available for civic education

Advertiser Staff

The Organization of Chinese Americans Hawai'i chapter will choose five high school juniors and seniors of Asian or Pacific Island ancestry for scholarships to attend Presidential Classroom, a one-week civic education program in Washington, D.C.

Deadline for applications is March 2 for the available summer sessions:

  • June 12-19 — National Security in a Democracy Program.
  • June 19-26 — Science, Technology and Public Policy Program.
  • June 26-July 3 — Law and Justice in a Democracy Program.
  • July 3-10 — Presidential Classroom Scholars Program.
  • July 10-17 — Future World Leaders Summit.

During the one-week session, participants from the United States and abroad witness the federal government at work while interacting with policymakers; gain a better understanding of the importance of active citizenship; enhance leadership, critical thinking and consensus-building skills; and have the opportunity to debate current issues with peers.

Each scholarship includes tuition, lodging, meals, and air and ground transportation. Students must have a B average or higher.
