Solar rebate program expanded for Kaua'i

The Kaua'i Island Utility Co-op has expanded its rebate program to residents with operational electric water heaters who install a solar version.

A $800 rebate will be provided, and previous limits based on income, family size and other factors have been removed from the program, said Anne Barnes, KIUC director of communications.

The rebate program also applies to new construction.

The Energy Wise Solar Rebate Program reduces a home's electrical costs for water heating, which can amount to 40 percent to 50 percent of the average power bill on Kaua'i, the utility said. For more information, call the utility at (808) 246-8284.
