Critic's Choice

Mini reviews of stage productions by Advertiser theater critic Joseph Rozmiarek

"Camaralzaman and the Princess": This is storytelling for adults, complete with champagne and belly dancing. Jeff Gere works his verbal magic, Willow Chang dances, and the audience joins in the recreation of an ancient tale of a Persian prince and a Chinese princess — filled with sex, violence and adventure. Repeats at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays through Feb. 28 at Indigo Eurasian Cuisine. Admission is $20, and includes glass of champagne. 521-2900.

"Scotland Road": In the mood for a psychodrama? This Manoa Valley Theatre production offers lots of fun with characters who aren't what they seem and plot twists that we can almost anticipate. The head-shaking ending offers satisfying melodrama. At 8 p.m. today and tomorrow and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $25; $5 discount for seniors and military; $15 for those 25 and younger. 988-6131.

"Two Trains Running": August Wilson's character comedy about life and death in a ghetto diner is presented by the Honolulu African American Repertory Theatre at The Actors' Group's Yellow Brick Studio. The ensemble cast neatly captures the dreams and speech cadences that bring the characters to life. At 7:30 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays (except today) and 4 p.m. Sundays, through Feb. 8. Tickets are $10. 722-6941.
