North Carolina running back commits to UH football team

A highly regarded running back from North Carolina has decided to accept a football scholarship from the University of Hawai'i.

Andrew Pearman of Providence High in North Carolina told The Advertiser today: "I’m going to the University of Hawai'i."

Pearman said he told his parents this afternoon. "My dad is really cool about it," he said. "With my mom, the far-away-thing is a factor. But my older sister is in Africa, and she dealt with it. They want me to be happy, and I’ll be extremely happy at the University of Hawai'i."

Pearman, who is 5 feet 9 and 175 pounds, can run 40 yards in 4.3 seconds.

He is turning down scholarship offers from Virginia, South Carolina, Wake Forest and Army.

"I was saying that when I got here, it would be nice," he recalled telling friends before leaving on his recruiting trip. "Hawai'i is everything I hoped it would be."
