Advertiser Staff

Kahuku High School defensive lineman Shosei Yamauchi has made a verbal commitment to play football for Troy (Ala.) State University next season, his mother said late Thursday night.

Yamauchi, 6 feet 2 and 225 pounds, was named to The Advertiser's All-State first team last season. He also is a standout on the Red Raiders' basketball team.

Troy State, a former power in NCAA Division I-AA, now is a I-A program that competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

Anna Yamauchi said her son received interest from Boise State, Fresno State, Idaho State, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Western Montana, but Troy State was the only one to make a solid offer.
