BUSINESS BRIEFS
Islands gain Portland flight
Advertiser Staff
Northwest Airlines will expand service to Hawai'i with a daily nonstop flight between Portland, Ore., and Honolulu beginning Dec. 15.
The Minneapolis-based airline also said service between San Francisco and Honolulu will resume the same day with one daily flight. The airline had dropped that flight in 2001. Both flights will be operated with Boeing 757-300 aircraft.
Tickets for the new flights will available beginning tomorrow, officials said.
Maritime fund in the works
Hawai'i residents soon will be able to take advantage of a new maritime training scholarship soon to attend California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, Calif. The fund is being supported by local maritime firms and organizations.
Hawai'i maritime interests have launched an effort aimed at raising more than $50,000 as an initial installment for the scholarship fund.
