The third annual Hawai'i Shakespeare Festival returns with three tales of love lost and won:

  • "Love's Labors Lost," a courtly battle of the sexes, is directed by Tony Pisculli. 8 p.m. July 9-10, 15, 17; 4 p.m. July 18.
  • "King Lear," a drama of deceit and grief, directed by Harry Wong III. 8 p.m. July 16, 22, 24; 4 p.m. July 17, 25.
  • "All's Well That Ends Well," a fairy-tale comedy, directed by R. Kevin Doyle. 8 p.m. July 23, 30-31; 4 p.m. July 24, Aug. 1.

Tickets are $16 general, $14 seniors/military, $8 students (under 18 or with college ID); $36 season ticket (all three plays); group discounts available, too.

STAGE: July 16-Aug. 1

Diamond Head Theatre closes its 2003-2004 season with the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar." The creation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, this vibrant show tells the dramatic story of the last seven days of Jesus' life. The cast features Matthew Pennaz as Jesus, Alison Maldonado as Mary Magdalene and John Bryan and Judas Iscariot. Popular songs on the soundtrack include "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Superstar" and "What's the Buzz." Andrew Sakaguchi directs and choreographs while Melina Lillios handles the musical direction. Tickets are $12-$42, with discounts for students, seniors and military.

MIXED BAG: July 23-25

Think of it as a huge treasure hunt: Billed as "Hawai'i's largest annual collectibles and antiques show and sale," the 14th Hawaii All-Collectors Show at the Blaisdell Center boasts 200 booths and the largest selection of Hawaiiana under one roof. The Ukulele Guild of Hawaii features a hands-on display on making your own 'ukulele, while the Pacific Outpost 501st Legion (Star Wars Club) will be in costume July 24. Allen St. James will also be on hand, hosting a display on the True Art of Tiki. Admission is $3.95 general and $2 children 7-11. Seniors 65 and older get in free July 25.

COMEDY: July 23-24

Hold on to your funnybones because comedian Gabriel Iglesias is coming to town. Hailing from California, this Latino comic is the next featured act in the On Stage Hawaii Comedy Invasion series. Iglesias' acting credits include "All That," "My Wife and Kids," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Opening the show will be Felipe Esparza, Armando Cosio and Martin Moreno. Tickets are $25 advance and $30 at the door; for 18 and older.

CONCERT: July 30-31

The Hawaii International Jazz Festival is back for its 11th year, this time to pay tribute to Hawai'i's families of jazz and to present historic sounds from the early years of jazz in the Islands. The first night, "Swingtime in Hawaii," honors local artists including Melveen Leed, right, Jimmy Borges and Gabe Baltazar Jr. Clarinetist Ken Peplowski also joins the lineup. The second night, "International Jazz," showcases Grammy award-winning pianist Lalo Schifrin, along with Gypsy Pacific of Maui, Honolulu Jazz Quartet and saxophonist David Choy. Tickets are $20, $35 and $45.

FESTIVAL: July 25

Come honor the original "leaping flea" at the 34th annual Ukulele Festival. Grammy award-winning vocalist James Ingram will be on hand for the celebrations, along with local artists Ohta-San), Keale 'Ohana, Uluwehi Guerrero, Daniel Ho (left), Troy Fernandez, Rocky Brown and Roy Sakuma's 800-piece 'ukulele band. Other guest artists include James Hill from Canada, Yuji Igarashi from Japan, Cerritos Senior Ukulele Group from California and Kaoru Kohonoike and KK Hawaiian Groove from Japan. Danny Kaleikini emcees. Free.

FAIRS & FESTIVALS: July 30-Aug. 8

The Hawaii State Farm Fair offers a country market, livestock and exhibit, Meadow Gold petting zoo, orchid and plant sale, E.K. Fernandez midway of rides and games, agricultural demonstrations and samplings and food booths. The fair is a fund-raiser for the Oahu County Farm Bureau. Admission is $3 general, $2 children 4-11 and free for children 3 and younger. Parking is $2. Pre-sale tickets are available starting July 6 for $8, which includes one admission, three ride tickets and an offer from Long John Silver's/A&W All American Food Restaurant. 848-2074.

British rock legend The Who lives on, led by original members Roger Daltry, left, and Pete Townshend, right. Rounding out the group will be drummer Zak Starkey, bassist Pino Palladino, rhythm guitarist Simon Townshend and keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick. Get on the "Magic Bus" to see the group, which is known for such hits as "I Can't Explain," "My Generation" and "I Can See for Miles." Tickets are $65 and $95.

Songs in the Keys of ...

Alicia Keys is heading for a concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Blaisdell Arena. The last time she was here, it was for a midnight show at what used to be World Café (now Volcanoes) in December 2001. Back then, it cost just $15 to catch the rising R&B star. Now it's $50 and $85 to catch the established star whose album credits include "Songs in A Minor" and "The Diary of Alicia Keys." Down memory lane
