ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Indulge in music, food, fun at BayFest on Marine base

Advertiser Staff

The California-based rock band Train will take the stage in tomorrow's BayFest spectacular.

Marine Corps Community Service Hawaii

BayFest is always about the music, but has anyone else craved the deep-fried Twinkies? Nothing quite says celebration time like guilt-free additions to the cellulite. And if you plan on sticking to the diet, tonight's entertainment is singer-songwriter Liz Phair.

Tomorrow, mellow-rocking Train; and Sunday, country star Jo Dee Messina. All will perform at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i. Call 254-7563 for more information. Don't miss out on the carnival rides ... oh, and those Twinkies.

Not fully channeled into dining

The next time you ask your loved one to pass the potatoes at the dinner table, and he hits the remote without batting an eye, understand he isn't the only distracted diner. According to a survey by the American Furniture Manufacturers, 74 percent of those interviewed watch TV while dining. Other distractions:

  • 52 percent listen to the radio.
  • 41 percent talk on the phone.
  • 30 percent read.
  • 29 percent play on the computer.
