Kane'ohe boat leads Pacific Cup

Kane'ohe Yacht Club's Kai-miloa leads the 13th biennial West Marine Pacific Cup, a 2,070-mile race from San Francisco Bay to Kane'ohe Bay.
The J-44 vessel skippered by David Nottage leads both the fleet and Division D on handicap in swells up to 7 feet through Day 4. Kaimiloa is a former division winner in the race.
Surprise, a Schumacher 46, skippered by Steve Chaimberlin and navigated by his wife, Susan, of the Kane'ohe Yacht Club, follows Andiamo in Division D and is third in the fleet.
Another Kane'ohe Yacht Club entrant, Lou and Kim Ickler's Ghost, continues to lead Division A. California Girl has moved into the lead in Division B. Hawai'i Yacht Club's Ikaika, skippered by Tony Miller and navigated by Skip Winterbottom, is second in the division. Bodacious continues to lead the Division C competition.
Today is the final starting day, featuring the swiftest yachts race has to offer including the 140 foot super maxi, Mari Cha IV, considered to be the fastest monohull yacht on any ocean.

Aussie Mitchell to defend championship
Jamie Mitchell of Australia has returned to Hawai'i to defend his title in the 26th annual Hui O He'e Nalu Independence Day Paddleboard Race on Sunday.
Mitchell, the two-time defending world champion, is considered the top contender among the more than 150 competitors expected to enter. The 3ý-mile course starts at Sunset Beach and ends at Waimea Bay.
Another Australian, Mick Dibetta, is also considered a top contender. Top entries from Hawai'i include Brian Rocheleau, Guy Pere and Dawson Jones.
It is the largest and longest-running paddleboard race in the state.
Walk-up entries will be accepted until around 10 a.m. on Sunday. Entry fee is $25. The race will begin at 11 a.m.; the fastest paddlers are expected to complete the course in around 30 minutes.
