'Walk With God' events continue

Thousands of Hawai'i's Jehovah's Witnesses continue meeting for their annual convention at the Mililani Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 239 Pali'i St. in the Mililani Technology Park.

An expected 17,000 will gather over the weekends statewide to attend and attend seminars in English, Spanish, American sign language and many other languages.

The 2004 "Walk With God" Convention began June 18 and ends Aug. 14.

Ministry hosts surf contest

The Hawaiian Island Surf, a nondenominational ministry program, will have its sixth annual surf contest next weekend in Waikiki.

The two-day event, which begins at 7 a.m. July 10, is at the Queen's surf break off Kuhio Beach. There are more than 18 divisions, including short board, long board, keiki, seniors, pastors and body board,. There will also be bands and prize giveaways; a food drive is part of the event.

Bahai to mark Bab martyrdom

On Friday, the Honolulu Bahai community observes the anniversary of the martyrdom of one of the central figures of their faith, the Bab, with a free program of music, readings and devotions at 11 a.m. at the Honolulu Baha'i Center, 2165 10th Ave. in Palolo Valley. At noon, a shared community lunch will be offered.

The Bab, whose name means the "Gate," was the prophet of the faith who in 1850 was executed by a firing squad in a public square in Tabriz, Persia (now Iran).
