Renegade nearing finish of Victoria to Maui race

Advertiser Staff

Renegade, a 70-foot sloop, is nearing the finish in a tight three-vessel race in the biennial IBM 2004 Victoria to Maui yacht race.

Renegade, skipped by Dan Sinclair and navigated by Ron Ogilvy, both of Vancouver, could finish as early as Sunday.

Two other Division I boats — Cassiopeia and Flash — are also in the running for first to finish.

Voodoo Child, a J130 (13 meters or about 43 feet), leads Division II over Time Bandit, a J120 (12 meters).

Divisions are based on a formula of size and weight of the boat, waterline, sail configuration and how a boat can perform in certain weather. Division I is for the larger boats.
