Man arraigned in purse-snatchingA 23-year-old man was arraigned today at District Court in connection with a purse-snatching Friday in Kalihi.
Micah Akima is charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree theft and two drug offenses. His bail totals $75,000.
A police report filed at District Court said Akima pulled a purse off the shoulder of a 72-year-old woman who was walking on Houghtailing Street. The robbery was reported to police at 6:20 p.m.
Police said Akima dropped the purse while being chased by witnesses. He was arrested by police in the 1200 block of North School Street. He was treated for minor injuries sustained while resisting arrest, police said.
Tip helps nab robbery suspect
A CrimeStoppers tip led to the arrest Friday of a woman who was later charged by federal officials with the June 29 robbery of Central Pacific Bank's Waipahu branch at 94-210 Pupukahi St. Leyen E. Gradle, 35, who has no permanent local address, was arrested in Waipahu at 10:08 a.m. and turned over to the U.S. Marshal's Service at 10:25 p.m. Friday.
Gradle is also under federal investigation for two other robberies that occurred in 2002 and 2003.
Charges filed in carjacking case
Authorities have charged 23-year-old Anthony K. Rodrigues with kidnapping, second-degree robbery and second-degree terroristic threatening in connection with a June 26 carjacking in Kane'ohe. Rodrigues was arraigned today at District Court and is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Rodrigues is accused of commandeering a 2002 Ford pickup truck from a 22-year-old man, who had stopped on Pu'ahu'ula Place in Kane'ohe to ask for directions, and holding the victim against his will as Rodrigues and two other companions drove the truck around. The victim was also robbed of cash and credit cards, forced to withdraw $400 from an ATM and stripped of his pants and shirt before being let go.
Man charged in sexual assaults
A 42-year-old 'Aina Haina man was charged Sunday with five counts of first-degree sex assault and seven counts of third-degree sex assault on a juvenile female. James Yoshikawa III is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Man allegedly ordered drugs
A Kaua'i man was charged Friday in a federal complaint with possession with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine. According to the criminal complaint, Craig Kiyoshi Iwase took possession of a Federal Express delivery from Canoga Park, Calif., on June 16 at 3915A Koloa Road that contained two pounds of methamphetamine.
Watase admitted to law enforcement officers that he ordered the methamphetamine for $25,000 a pound and had made partial payment of $9,000 for it, the complaint said.
