Renegade first boat to arrive at Lahaina
Advertiser Staff
Renegade, an Andrews 70 Turbo skippered by Dan Sinclair, was the first yacht to cross the finish line in the biennial IBM 2004 Victoria to Maui yacht race.
Renegade, sailing out of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, arrived in Lahaina at 4:39 yesterday morning.
While Renegade, sailing in Division 1, was the first to finish, Flash, a Transpac 52, is the overall leader in the division and in the fleet based on corrected time after finishing yesterday afternoon at 2:47.
There are eight boats that have a chance of wresting the overall fleet victory from Flash, but the final results will not be known until all the boats arrive at Lahaina, sometime Saturday, and corrected times are computed.
Cassiopeia, another Division 1 boat, was expected to reach Lahaina last night.
Voodoo Child was the leader in Division 2 yesterday, having covered 195 miles in a 24-hour period.
Tranquillite was the leader in Division 3, having covered 184 miles in 24 hours.
The divisions are based on a formula of size and weight of the boat, waterline, sail configuration and how a boat performs in different weather.
