A 45-year-old man died after being found floating face-down near the mouth of Nu'uanu Stream yesterday afternoon.
Police have classified the case as an unattended death and said no foul play is suspected. An autopsy will be done.
Witnesses said they saw the man swimming in the stream near the Hotel Street bridge shortly after 5:30 p.m. But a short while later, the man was unconscious, police said.
Clarence Engoring was crabbing with a friend when he saw the man in the water.
"He wasn't struggling. He wasn't panicking or anything. He was just floating," Engoring said. "The next thing I know he was face-down."
The man was pulled from the water and taken to Kuakini Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
