City supervisors face charges
Two supervisors at the Kailua wastewater treatment plant were indicted by an O'ahu grand jury and accused of using city employees and equipment to do work at a private home.
Harry Hauck was charged with two counts of bribery and one count of second-degree theft. Jay Gonsalves was charged with a single count of second-degree theft.
Hauck has been a city employee for 19 years and Gonsalves 13 years. City spokeswoman Carol Costa confirmed that both are supervisors at the Kailua sewage plant, but she declined comment on the indictments.
The indictment accuses the men of using city employees and equipment for private purposes from July 1, 2001 to Aug. 31, 2001.

Not-guilty plea in ticket theft
A Honolulu sports promoter charged with first-degree theft pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges of failing to pay the National Football League for tickets he sold to the 2003 Pro Bowl.
Manuel A. Sanchez waived indictment on the charge and will be tried Sept. 7 before Circuit Judge Richard Pollack. Sanchez was released on his own recognizance.
Sanchez allegedly owes the NFL $457,604 for Pro Bowl tickets sold by his former company, Tickets Plus, as well as a $100,000 event sponsorship fee.
Zoning, permits to be discussed
The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii is holding a July 20 panel and discussion called "Streamlining the Permitting and Zoning Process." Panelists include Eric Crispin of the city Planning and Permitting Department, Cheryl Soon of the Department of Transportation Services and Patrick Felling of the state Department of Health.

Waialua church prepares lu'au
The Waialua Assembly of God will hold a Community Outreach Luau from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31 at the Hale'iwa First Baptist Church, 66-415 Hale'iwa Beach Road.
The purpose of the event is to raise money for a number of congregation activities.

Motorcyclist killed on Maui
A 35-year-old Lahaina man was killed Wednesday night in a motorcycle crash on Honoapi'ilani Highway, 0.1 mile south of Lower Hono-api'ilani Road. Maui police identified him as Michael Jo Higdon.
Higdon, who was not wearing a helmet, was headed south when his motorcycle veered off the highway and struck a guardrail. The crash was reported at 8:24 p.m. Higdon died at the scene.
The death is Maui's eighth traffic fatality of the year, compared with seven on the same date in 2003.
