Mystery tanker left at refinery

Honolulu fire and police late last night were trying to determine what was in a tanker trailer that was left outside the Tesoro refinery at Campbell Industrial Park.

The tanker had no identifying marks or placard describing its contents, said fire spokesman Capt. Emmit Kane. He said Tesoro security personnel discovered the abandoned tanker yesterday afternoon.

Police evacuated Campbell Industrial Park and traffic was turned around at the Home Depot in Kapolei.

The fire department's hazmat crew was taking air samples to determine what, if any, substance or gas may be in the tanker.

About 9:30 p.m., police said there was no explosive device on the tanker. Police also said they were unable to determine who owned the tanker and that it was last registered in the 1960s.
