Advertiser Staff

A two-vehicle collision on Maui early yesterday killed one man and injured four others, two of them critically, Maui police said.

The crash occurred at Pu'unene Avenue and West Papa Avenue in Kahului shortly after 2 a.m. when a 1995 Chevrolet headed toward Kihei on Pu'u-nene broadsided a 1992 Honda sedan that was turning left onto West Papa.

Killed at the scene was William Inocencio, a passenger in the front seat of the Honda, police said. The driver, in serious condition, and another passenger, critically injured, were taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The driver of the Chevrolet and a passenger were also taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center. The driver was in guarded condition, and the passenger in critical condition.

Police were investigating to see whether speed, drugs or alcohol were involved.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.
