Officer on leave after shooting

A police officer involved in a shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.

The officer shot and wounded a man Friday night in 'Ewa after the man threatened to kill the officer, investigators said.

The officer went to the Palm Court town homes on Puamaeole Street to investigate a report of an argument between the 24-year-old man and his mother, police said. The man told the officer that he had a gun behind his back and that he was going to kill the officer, the investigators said.

The officer fired when the man made a sudden move toward him, according to police.

The man was hit in the right leg. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.

Missing boy, 12, found on trail

A 12-year-old Wai'anae boy reported missing yesterday while hunting with his mother's boyfriend on the 'Aiea Loop Trail was found by rescuers at 6:41 p.m., said Fire Department Capt. Emmit Kane.

The two were separated on the trail around 3:30 p.m. The boy's mother called police when he didn't return. Two Fire Department rescue companies and police and fire helicopters searched for the boy for about two hours before finding him walking on the trail heading back. The boy told rescuers he wasn't lost, but was looking for his mother's boyfriend.
