Wahine soccer picked 2nd in WAC preseason poll

The University of Hawai'i was picked to press defending champion Southern Methodist for the Western Athletic Conference women's soccer championship.

The Mustangs received eight first-place votes from conference coaches and the Rainbow Wahine got one.

SMU, which has won three consecutive championships, returns eight starters. UH returns nine starters, including three all-conference performers: two-time scoring champion Natasha Kai, and Robyn deHay and Joelle Sugai.

UH won the regular season title in 2003.

The WAC soccer season opens Aug. 27.
